Why Your ‘Someday’ Never Comes

Today, we will look closely at the third barrier: Time the perpetual postponement.

My Personal Story: The MBA I Almost Never Started

Let me share something from my own life that might sound familiar to you.

After I moved from being a pharmacist to working as a management consultant, I quickly saw that I needed more training to do my job well. While KPMG gave me some good training programs, I wanted to learn even more because I thought it would help me feel sure of myself at work.

An MBA seemed like the perfect answer. But when I looked at my situation, all I saw were problems, I had very little money saved up, My work schedule was packed full every day, I really wanted to study with a UK university

With these big roadblocks, I kept moving my start date further and further into the future. “Maybe next year,” I would tell myself. But next year would come, and I would find new reasons to wait.

How Growth Finally Happened

After a few more projects where I felt I was not good enough to do my job properly, I decided that waiting was no longer an option. I set a firm date to begin my MBA and started working toward it.

Then something amazing happened!

Once I made a clear decision and stopped waiting for “someday,” my mind began to see options that were there all along. It was as if God started sending the exact information I needed.

I found an MBA program with the University of Leicester that solved all my problems, the program let me learn at my own pace, the cost was much less than other schools, they offered a payment plan so I did not need all the money at once

I started the MBA in September 2007 and graduated in January 2010. This degree has helped me in my work, my business, and even my personal life in ways I never expected.

Growth happened when I decided to make a move even when all the conditions were not favorable.

Why We Keep Postponing Important Growth

The Time Barrier is so tricky because it feels reasonable. After all, who would not want to start something under perfect conditions?

But here is the truth: there is no perfect time for growth. Life will always be busy. Resources will always feel limited. There will always be good reasons to wait.

The most successful people I have worked with are not those who wait for perfect conditions. They are those who start with imperfect conditions and adjust as they go.

When we wait for the perfect time, We miss valuable learning years – We lose the power of compound growth – We train our minds to accept delay as normal

How to Break Through Your Time Barrier

The solution to this is not finding more time. It is changing how we think about timing altogether.

Instead of asking “When will be the perfect time to start?” ask yourself: – “What is the cost of waiting another year?” – “What small step can I take today, even in imperfect conditions?” – “How can I adjust my plans to work with my current situation?”

Remember, growth is rarely about big leaps. It is about small steps taken consistently over time.

Action Point

  • Look at one important goal you have been postponing. Write down three specific conditions you have been waiting for. Now, for each condition, write down one way you could start making progress even if that condition never changes.

The perfect time to grow is not someday in the future. It is today, with whatever conditions you currently have.
