Over the past few weeks, we have explored the power of looking back with hindsight vision and seeing clearly in the present with insight vision. Now, we are ready to step into the future with foresight vision – the amazing ability to plan ahead with wisdom and confidence.
Definition
Foresight vision is the ability to imagine immediate next steps and their potential results to identify the best course of action. It is like being a wise chess player who thinks several moves ahead, or a gardener who plants seeds knowing what beautiful flowers will bloom in different seasons.
When you use foresight vision, you become like a movie director in your own life. You can imagine different scenes playing out – “What if I choose this path? What might happen? What if I choose that path instead? How might that story unfold?” This special kind of thinking is called scenario thinking, and it helps you make choices with your eyes wide open.
Personal Story
Let me share a story about someone whose life changed when he learned to use foresight vision. I recently coached a talented leader who worked at a very successful company worth millions of dollars. He came to me feeling stuck and confused about his future. He had been working hard for years, but he could not figure out what his next best step should be.
Instead of simply telling him what to do, I decided to guide him through some important questions. Together, we used scenario thinking to explore his future like detectives investigating a mystery. We created three different possible stories for his life, like writing three different endings to a book.
The first scenario was staying in his current team. We talked about what his daily life would look like, what new skills he might learn, how his career could grow, and what opportunities might come his way if he stayed where he was.
The second scenario was moving to a different team within the same big company. We imagined what that change would feel like, what new challenges he would face, what different kinds of growth he could experience, and how this move might open new doors for his future.
The third scenario was leaving the company entirely to work somewhere else, maybe for a similar job or even a better position. We explored what this big change would mean for his family, his learning, his income, and his long-term dreams.
By the time we finished exploring these three possible paths, something magical happened. The fog of confusion in his mind cleared away. He could finally see which choice felt right for his heart and his future. The best part was that he made this important decision himself, I just helped him use his own wisdom to see clearly.
Why Foresight Vision Transforms Your Life
When you develop foresight vision, you become like a wise captain steering your own ship. Instead of just drifting wherever the wind blows, you can choose your direction based on where you truly want to go. You stop making decisions based only on how you feel right now and start making choices that serve your bigger dreams.
Foresight vision also helps you feel less worried and more confident about the future. When you can see different possibilities ahead of time, you feel more prepared and less afraid. It is like having a flashlight in a dark room, suddenly, you can move forward without stumbling.
This kind of thinking also helps you spot amazing opportunities that other people might miss. When you are always looking ahead and imagining different possibilities, you notice chances to grow, learn, and create the life you really want.
Action Point
- Pick one current challenge you are facing, it could be about work, money, relationships, or any important decision you need to make and imagine three possible outcomes:
Best Case: What if everything goes better than expected?
Worst Case: What if things do not go as planned?
Most Likely: What would a realistic path forward look like?
Spend a few minutes imagining each scenario. This will help you make better decisions and feel more prepared for the future.
