Mbappe is now French Captain

Mbappe was recently made captain of the French national team and Antoine Griezmann was not so happy about it.

Griezmann has been waiting for many years to be the next captain but earlier this week Mbappe was named captain instead of Griezmann.

But who wouldn’t want Mbappe to be captain?

A player who scored a hatrick (3 goals) at the 2022 world cup finals. One who effectively combines speed and skill – a nightmare combo for defenders.

I like watching Mbappe play. I also like playing him on FIFA (PS5) – who doesn’t!? 🙂.

It’ll be hard for anyone to fault Mbappe’s competence, it is his character that many will question. He’s been known to not demonstrate the best character traits on and off the soccer pitch.

Mbappe himself acknowledged this when he was sharing his thoughts after being named the captain. He said “’This won’t change how I play, but maybe the way I behave”.

What’s interesting is that we see this playing out in the corporate world as well. Where you have a very competent team member but their character is still in question.

Then the organization faces the dilemma of either making that person a leader hoping their character will improve or not taking the risk and keeping them in their current role.

As you keep growing your career, make sure you’re building both your competence AND your character.

Find out what kind of character traits are required for the role you’re targeting and find ways to develop and demonstrate them.

Don’t let opportunities pass you by because of wrong character traits.
